Wednesday, March 12 Isaiah 41:13

For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Do not fear, I will help you.”

LEAD ME, GUIDE ME

What a profound promise and comfort from Isaiah! What more could I need or want? It turns out that I am also human and with that comes sin. I am redeemed through Jesus Christ. However, I still sin. I have wants that are not of God and I act on those wants. Regrettably, so do all humans. We forget that God has called us by name and that we are his. Therefore, we sin and we fear.

In these words from Isaiah we hear the reason that we need not fear. God has claimed us. No matter what, God has claimed us. Through Jesus we are forgiven.

Lent is often a time to work through our humanness and find God`s comfort. This Lent I am concentrating on letting go of fear. I concentrate through prayer and silence and contemplation. I talk to God. I confess my discomfort with that which gives me fear and I ask for God`s help. I ask God to forgive my judgment and to help me forgive. I ask God to be with me and guide me.

Most nights when I cannot sleep I find myself singing this chorus of “Lead Me, Guide Me.”*

“Lead me, guide me along life`s way
For if you lead me, I cannot stray.
Lord, let me walk each day with thee.
Lead me, O Lord, lead me.”

This simple chorus calms me and reminds me that I am God`s child. God chose me. I am his. I sleep with no fear, with peace, with love. This is my eternal journey since I am human. And I know I need not fear since I have been called by name. I am his.

Eternal God, thank you for your guidance, your love and your peace. Amen
